Games 5 and 6: Simonster's Beastmen

Games five and six were both fairly comprehensive wins at 1500 points against Simonster. I tried out a Silver Helm unit with a Prince with Radient Gem (Death), Temrakor's Gauntlets and Ring of Corin. This combo killed his Archmage early on both games before popping his BSB's banner. I also tried out units of five reavers, in both games they died to the Ruby Ring and fled off board. Waste of points in small units I think.

Not much else to say about the games except that they were fun and we both tried out new bits and pieces.

Game 7: Ant's Dwarfs

Deployment
Ahh the old enemy the dawi. Ironbreakers, Hammerers, GW warriors and more shoooting all wrapped in a magic resistaht package. Should be interesting...

Hocus Focus: Ellyrian Reavers

So one thing that caused some discussion with all my opponents was my Reaver units. Generally thought of as a strong contender for the title of worst fast cav in the game and 21 points a model at their most useful they are easy to kill, inefficient in combat and expensive. Why then do I think they do a job for High Elves?

Lores of Magic: Shadow Magic

Shadow is so good its extra comp'd by the ETC. It is used heavily by armies relying on str 3 guys or who need every advantage they can get in combat. It jumped out at me when I read the lores as a top choice for the Asur but after four games using it I have some doubts...

Game Four: Neil's Warriors of Chaos

Hs army immediately looks a tough nut and I settle in for a tight game, aiming to squeek a win through points denial. Unfortunatly I look to my right at table 2 and see Rob looking like winning big with his Lizardmen of Doom. Since he is on more points I push for a win of between 4-600 points. He later draws so I needn't have taken the risks I did, the final of which probably cost me the game.

Game Three: Daz's Tomb Kings

Daz is a great player, Simon has mentioned him on his blog a few times and he blogs as well. One thing he tells me right away is that I have only four points of standards etc. Meaning if I loose the unit of archers with the general I will loose the game. It appears he tries to terror bomb me off the table. I play along to get him to commit so I can sneak behind and butcher his general and a standard for a win.

Game Two: Wargame Insomniac's High Elves

I know Wargame Insomniac well as we used to play in the same dungeons and dragons group. We chat a little about us having very different takes on the High Elf list despite the low points value, which puts us a little behind the ball in terms of time, something that I would have to play very quickly as the game went on to come back from and squeeze the game into the time slot.

The List: Iteration 1

After the game with Simon I felt the BSB wasn't wholly worth it. It also felt like my items were somwhat wrong. Time for a reshuffle...

Lores of Magic: High Magic

This is the first in a series of articles on the lores of magic in 8th edition. Getting a selection of 9 lores plus the true magic has always been a strength of the High Elves. Since I am new to 8th edition I am starting with High Magic...

The List

Simon has convinced me to pick up my movement trays and assemble dirty dirty square based fun. I have some bits and bobs from as far back as 5th edition which have been tucked away. On top of that I have some ebay auctions to win for Reavers and Princes. Time for a list...
